Dusty Turner Wikipedia
Dustin Alan Turner, known to everyone as Dusty, was born on February 7, 1975, in Bloomington, Indiana. He grew up in a big, busy family, loved the water from a young age, and joined the U.S. Navy right after high school.
In June 1995, when he was just 20, his life changed overnight. Jennifer Evans, a 21-year-old pre-med student from Georgia, was killed after she left a Virginia Beach bar with him.
Turner admitted that he helped his training partner, Billy Joe Brown, hide her body. But he has always said Brown alone killed her.
A jury convicted Turner of first-degree murder and abduction in 1996, and a judge gave him 82 years. Brown later confessed that he acted alone, yet Turner’s convictions still stand today. In 2026, the Virginia Parole Board finally let him go home.

SEAL training demanded top fitness, and he kept that habit alive in prison by running and lifting weights. When he walked out in March 2026, he had long hair and a full beard.
These days, he begins most mornings at a local gym. He also swims often, goes boating on Lake Monroe, and has taken up golf and pickleball.
Dusty Turner Career
Turner was a hard worker long before the Navy. As a teen, he sold shoes at Payless, worked at Steak ‘n Shake, and served ice cream at The Penguin, a shop his father owned.
His favorite summer job was driving a water taxi at a marina on Lake Monroe. He saved enough to buy his first car, a maroon 1990 Ford Escort.
He joined the Navy’s Delayed Entry Program while still in high school. Two weeks after graduating in 1993, he left for boot camp in Orlando, Florida, and later attended Navy photography school.
In February 1994, he started BUD/S, the famously tough SEAL course in Coronado, California. His family says he graduated with Class 196 that December, one of just 19 men from a starting group of about 180.
He then finished Army Airborne School at Fort Benning and joined SEAL Team 4 in early 1995. He was still in his probation and advanced training period when June 1995 ended his Navy career. That is why news reports call him a former SEAL trainee.

Dusty Turner is not married, and there is no public record of him having a wife or children. He was only 20 when he was arrested, and he spent the next three decades behind bars.
After his release, one part of his dating life did make headlines. In April 2026, he was sent back to jail over a parole rule about telling new partners about his criminal record.
His lawyer said the two women he had dated since leaving prison had known him for years and knew all about his case. His support team called it a misunderstanding, and he was released about a month later.
For now, Turner says his focus is on his family, his close friends, and rebuilding his life.
